Like most seasoned teenagers, 15-year-old John Robbins, of Lehi, is a pro at gathering candy at Halloween. You know the type. They take a trip to Deseret Industries or Savers, purchase some '70s blue knit tuxedo or dress like a hobo, use mom's makeup for freckles and scars, and in 10 minutes or less they have collected in groups -- pillowcases in hand -- and hit the pavement with one goal in mind: getting the biggest candy haul.
Robbins says sometimes he has gathered as much as 5 to 10 pounds of sweets. This year he says things are going to be different. Oh, Robbins and friends will still get the candy, but instead of eating it until Christmas, he is going to be trading it for cash at his dentist's office at Stonehaven Dental in Lehi.
"You're getting paid to stay healthy," Robbins said. "I've already had cavities. I could see teenagers who find out about it would do this."
According to Mary Hegerman, Stonehaven spokeswoman, they collected around 500 pounds of candy last Halloween.
