Military medals stolen
TREASURED military decorations have been stolen from a Services social club where they were proudly displayed.
Officials at the Royal British Legion Club, in Newton Aycliffe , were shocked when they discovered the items were missing.
President Dennis Atkinson looked into a display cabinet during a branch meeting on Sunday and saw several spaces on the shelf.
The lock had been removed and replaced with a ribbon to hold the doors shut and medals, cap badges and a marine dagger had all been taken.
Assistant secretary Roy Pape (correct) said: "Whoever did this is the lowest of the low, some were valuable and important for sentimental reasons to a lot of people.
"We are very proud to display them, for members, ex members and those who have passed away.
"It is important to commemorate service personnel and children who come in for a family meal love to look at the medals and learn from them.

Recently while reading an extensive thread on the British & Commonwealth Military Badge Forum on a member’s example of this cap badge, I remembered that I had the same badge in my limited collection. As an exercise, somewhat analogous to self-administered surgery, I decided to try and evaluate my own badge, as well as in parallel, submitting photographs to the forum for expert opinions. In that way hopefully I will have an objective critique of my analytical capabilities. Not being an expert either in military cap badges, photography, or computers, did not deter me, as I thought it could prove an interesting learning experience. With acknowledgement to certain members of the forum, I’m taking the liberty to use photographs of some of specimens which they have submitted for appraisal....
