By Roger the Scanner Guy

Monday-Monday and I'm still wheezing. Did you notice I stopped saying SNOT so much? Well I'm starting to think that I use that word so much I accidentally cursed myself, being part gypsy and all.

The troops are coming home! That is wonderful news after all these years. I always had mixed feelings about America's kids going off to war for one too many people my age who avoided the Vietnam war. But here are their kids and grandkids going and volunteering for the same people that avoided the Vietnam war at almost all costs. Now we're cheering on their kids and grandkids. That's a little confusing to me. I knew many years ago that someday we were going to have a war in the Middle East, and even then I was against it because I did not want to see our young people go over and fight someone else's war. Yet they picked on us for this dance, and it's hard to say "No" when they keep asking in the form of attacks. After a while you just have to shut em' up for good. What an accomplishment to have served with pride in our armed forces. I knew a lot of guys that grew up joining the military, of course not all of them by their personal choice. Judges used to give young people (usually men) the choice of prison or the army. Well what would you take? I volunteered twice and was tossed out twice, not something to be proud of. The first time was about a year after my coma, and the second time I was running from the law and a few other people. Even though I was unfit for the military, I'm not sorry I joined. For one, every time I open up a new bar of Zest soap, I flashback to 1980 San Diego boot camp and for a brief period of time, I feel like I'm 21 again. It's a wonderful Christmas gift that our kids are coming home.

Los Angeles Times - Dec 31, 1969

Student loans add to angst at Occupy Wall Street "Most people look at the sticker prices at Harvard and Yale," Asher said. "But most students go to public schools, and tuitions there are also rising rapidly." Republicans in Congress are seeking to lower the $5000 cap on federal Pell Grants,

Story of deregulation should anger all of us

Mail Tribune - Dec 31, 1969

Let's re-cap. The real estate bubble burst in 2006, the US economy entered recession in late 2007, and the meltdown led to the crisis of 2008, which led, beginning with Bush and continuing with Obama, to $700 billion in bailouts that got people's
