MANILA (Updated) -- All units of the New People’s Army (NPA) will pay a tribute with gun salutes on October 15 to Communist Party of the Philippines (CCP) spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal.
Rosal, who gave a voice and face to one of Asia's longest-running Marxist insurgencies, had been rumored dead or suffering from an illness for some time, but his death was only confirmed on Sunday.

CCP bureau liaison Marco Valbuena said the public announcement of Rosal’s death was delayed until his daughters and relatives were notified.
“The entire membership of the CPP, Red fighters of the NPA, revolutionary forces and the Filipino masses mourn Ka Roger's death,” Valbuena's statement read.
