Webster Groves Library Announces Winners in Scary Story Contest

The Webster Groves Public Library has announced the winning entrants in its Scary Short Story Contest for children. This was the first year for the contest. Stories had to be between 100 and 500 words in length and could be true or made up. Here are the winners:  

Kindergarten through second-grade category:  

First place—Connor Broadhead Second place—Katie Downey Third place—Maren Elizabeth DeMargel and Gabriella Ramirez Honorable mention—Addy Girsch, Jackson Hanks and Ronak Parikh 

Third-grade through fifth-grade category:

First place—Matt Putnam 

There were no submissions in the sixth- through eighth-grade category. Here are samples of some of the winning stories.

Once upon a time, there was a witch and a cat. One day the cat went to the city. All the people starting kicking the cat. The cat told the witch what happened and the witch got mad. The witch made a boiling pot of green grease to pour over the people in the city to make them her servants. The witch and the cat sat on their flying broom and took to the sky. When the witch was over the city, she poured the green grease over all the people. When the green grease was on the people it brain sweeped them only to the memory that the witch was their master. With the magical green grease, the witch ruled the world. The End.
