Reward offered after thieves target new Pasco church
The new Trilby Fellowship church had not even held its first service.
Established by former members of local congregations, the church at 37255 Trilby Road was being refurbished in preparation for its first official service, scheduled for the evening of Dec. 24.
But sometime between 9:30 a.m. Nov. 23 and 4 p.m. Nov. 25 the church was broken into, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
George Welsted, chairman of the church's trustees, said thieves got away with about $9,000 worth of items, including three Dell computers, musical instruments, a public address system, speakers and amplifiers. Insurance won't cover the loss.
"All this stuff was donated, except my bass, which was my personal instrument that my wife gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago," Welsted said today. "Insurance won't cover it because we didn't have a monitored alarm system in place at the time. It was in our plans to get that installed, but it's been moved up the list now.

This past week, Christie’s (the global art auction house) and Takashi Murakami opened a limited preview of the earthquake benefit auction that featured work from contemporary artists such as Aya Takano, Yoshitomo Nara, Damient Hirst, KAWS, and was curated by Murakami himself. The benefit, which is expected to raise 5 million dollars, was created to bring aid to those who were and still continue to be adversely affected by the earthquake in Japan on March 11, 2011.
After the auction, proceeds will be donated to The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Global Giving, and International Medical Corps. When asked to comment on the positive impact such an auction can have, Takashi gave honest and wise words about the effects of what he believes is a society that continues to be negligent as to the causes of terrible natural disasters: “The damage which resulted from the recent earthquake was great and yet, there are other disasters occurring somewhere in the world every day. If we do not address the root causes of the chaos which arises from these disasters, both natural and man- made, then our problems will continue reoccurring and their severity will only grow worse, eating further away at the heart and mind....

My boyfriend lives in Gold Coast and I’m forever bemoaning the lack of good restaurants up there (being a Melbourne food snob and all!), however I’ve visited quite a few decent places. Moo Moo was one, and ditto a small cafe called Duck’s Nuts in Broadbeach that do alright salads. I’m definitely giving Elk a go next time as well as Luke Mangan’s Salt Grill, and also Bazaar, a buffet restaurant in QT (I don’t normally like buffet restaurants but this one’s been given good reviews, thus arousing my curiosity…).
Thanks also for the tip re: Yum Cha Robina. My boy reckons there’s not one decent yum cha restaurant in GC and given that he works in Robina, I’m surprised that he has not heard of Yum Cha Robina!
Suddenly, I’m looking forward to my next trip up!
