And just when you thought that George Osborne’s North Sea oil taxes had finally killed off new exploration, along comes a wounded BP, hit by slings and arrows from the American authorities and Russia, to lighten the mood with the go-ahead for £4.5billion of investment in the Clair field west of the Shetlands. That should be good for BP and for Britain’s trade balance too.

The epitome of sexy confidence and coolness personified, these two men are fashion icons that have continued to influence style long after the zenith of their reputation. Trilby hats were at their most common in the 1960's, but they have blasted forward given that the turn of this century as vintage looks and mixed modern style resurges as a trend. A trilby hat is like a fedora but with a quite little brim that turns up in the back and creases slightly in the front.

The London production of the play adaptation of George du Maurier's novel Trilby (1894) featured a hat like this in the costuming. The hat quickly became recognized as a trilby hat, and the name stuck. Given that then, they have been featured in plays, movies, and tv as a sign of how suave a character is. The contemporary American tv hit White Collar's primary character Neil often wear trilby hats and is characterized as extremely fashionable and individualistic. The distinctive hat is also associated with jazz, soul music, indie rock, and emo being worn by numerous musicians in these genres and in movies depicting these musicians....
